[Stay Strong] Timing is a HUGE Factor to a New Idea’s Success

Right now, lots of entrepreneurs and small businesspeople are considering new ideas for the new year. So, I thought I would share insights from launching my new idea called LiveLikeYourNailColor.com.

The first insight I shared is that if you get an idea or a nudge, explore it by asking yourself a bunch of questions before you invest time, money, energy, and resources.

Insight #2: Timing is a HUGE factor for your new idea’s success!

There’s timing that’s good for you in your life. But, even more so, it’s about the timing in the marketplace that you serve and your ideal clients.

A good idea at the right time is far more successful than an amazing idea at the wrong time.

Peter Thiel, Co-founder of PayPal, who now runs incubators has said the number one factor for startup success is timing.

This really resonated with me, because in 2010 I wrote the book Live Like Your Nail Color, Even If You Have Naked Nails. Based on the book I did lots of speaking, created my own nail polish, and even started a subscription club. Members would get a new color of nail polish with a fun name each month along, plus a CD where I interviewed a gal about how to live like that nail color.

The concept gained some momentum, but not enough women were ready for that kind of thing. I decided not to continue.

Until I had an unexpected conversation in July of 2020 that made me seriously consider bringing back the idea of living like your nail color – in a whole new way.

Ten years later things had changed. Now, because of the pandemic, women were feeling discouraged, fearful, and starting to lose hope. There was a lot of chip happening!

Live Like Your Nail Color could be a new voice of encouragement, light-heartedness, and fun! Because salons were closed, doing your nails shifted from pampering to a practical form of self-care. And interviews via podcasts were now common.

Time will tell whether Like Like Your Nail Color will become wildly successful. What I do know is that now is the right now and that the first responses have been extremely positive and at a different level than I experienced in 2010.
