Remembering Your True, Authentic Self

Living_Like_Your_Nail_Color_Starts_with_Naked_NailsEleanor Roosevelt said “Life has got to be lived, that’s all there is to it.” So, let’s get to living like our nail color!

Step One to living like your nail color is to get n@ked - nails, that is.  If you’re wearing polish, the first thing you need to do is take it off, usually with nail polish remover and cotton balls.  Next it’s time to trim and file.  Lastly, push back your cuticles by soaking your fingers or toes in warm water to soften things up and then push your cuticles back with an orange stick or cuticle pusher.  You can massage some cuticle oil into your entire nail when done to keep them healthy. I also like using a little scrub to exfoliate my hands or feet, followed by a rich moisturizer.  Your hands or feet will love you!

Getting back to n@ked nails is the perfect time to get back in touch with your true, authentic, original self.  As today’s Wonder Woman who puts her attention on taking care of everyone else, it’s easy to forget who you really are.  It’s too easy to be critical of yourself and to forget about all the good stuff that’s already there.  So, while your nails are getting n@ked, ask:

What’s one thing I’ve done recently that I feel good about and why?

Focus on the small, simple stuff you’ve done recently that makes you feel good, but you didn’t think was a big deal.  Maybe it was an act of kindness like calling a friend who had a tough day.  Maybe it was asking your manager to pay for you to attend a training class.  Maybe it was drinking water rather than soda at lunch.  Or, maybe it was saying “love to, but no” to another volunteer activity that would have put your sanity on “tilt.”

Even though others may not notice, it sure can be fun to tell ‘em, especially when you get to hear their good stuff, too.  That’s why I love getting together with girlfriends for a Live Like Your Nail Color Party

At a recent party my friend Susan shared:  “My whole life has changed pretty dramatically recently because I decided to start my own business.  For the first time in my life I’m doing what I want to do.  It’s not just starting a business but it’s also spending time with my grandkids and being really focused on what I enjoy doing.”  Wow, now that’s big.

“Today I created a form on my website, recorded and edited a podcast, and wrote an auto-responder.  Wow, who the heck am I?  I really am technical!” announced Vickie, who is a certified hypnotist and EFT (emotional freedom technique) practitioner.  We all laughed and could completely relate.  The oxytocin was in full force!

“Life isn’t about finding yourself.  Life is about creating yourself,” said George Bernard Shaw.  And it’s always time to create some good feelings about you.  So, pull out some nail care products, call some girlfriends, open a bottle of wine, and have a party!  Problems will be solved, celebrations will be shared, and laughter will heal the many dings (and dingbats) of life.
